300 new taxis at Tribhuvan International Airport

Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) will be receiving 300 new taxis to cater to airport passengers in the next two months from Airport Air Passenger Transportation Service Management Company (AAPTSMC) which has already started operating 150 taxis in the airport. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal awarded the tender to AAPTSMC to operate 300 pre-paid green plate taxis and replace the 170 old taxis at TIA.

According to chairman of the company Purosottam Simkhada, due to private vehicles still operating at the airport,  the company is currently facing losses of Rs 0.2 million a month. The company has a monthly expense of Rs 0.6 million and their total income is only Rs 0.4 million.

Many attempts of requesting private vehicles not to carry airport passengers have been completely ignored.  “We, too, cannot check and control the use of private vehicles as there is no security for our vehicles,” said Simkhada, adding that it needs security and proper management along with tax relief.
