Domestic Airline Nepal

At present, there are 14 domestic airlines that are in operation in Nepal. These airlines provide visitors  easy route to different nooks and corners of the country. With an extensive network of service, these airlines make it easier to access the internal parts of the Himalayan nation. All of these airlines have been issued Air Operator Certificate by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). With the exception of Nepal Airlines (previously known as Royal Nepal Airlines,) all these airlines are privately owned and operated.

Agni Air
Agni Air started operations in March 2006. It has its headquarters in Kathmandu. It started operations on the Lukla and Tumlingtar sectors with a Dornier 228 and started flying to Biratnagar the next day. The airline operates flights to 8 destinations and also operates mountain flights.

Fishtail Air
Fishtail Air is a helicopter charter which was established in the year 1997. Since its commencement, the company has been actively involved in operation throughout the country with occasional Trans-border flights to Bhutan and India.  With a fleet of four helicopters, which includes one AS 350 B3 "Ecureuil", one AS 350 B2 "Ecureuil", one AS 350 B "Ecureuil" and one Bell 206B III Jet Ranger helicopter, Fishtail air has developed into the largest helicopter operator in Nepal.  Fishtail Air operates flights for sightseeing, rescue, medical evacuation, corporate movement, project support, expedition works or any other purposes that need the services of a Helicopter.

Base Air
Base Air uses small aircrafts and operates mountain flights to STOL airports in the north-east region of Nepal.

Buddha Air
Buddha Air is has been in operation since 1997. The only airline to start operating all its flight with the brand new Beech 1900D aircraft, Buddha Air is extremely popular because of its safety records.  The airlines now operates four brand new Beech 1900Ds The company has the largest fleet of the world’s best aircrafts amongst all domestic airliners in operation with four 18 seat Beechcraft-1900 D, three 47 seat ATR-42 and one 72 seat ATR 72-500 flying out to all the trunk routes with a minimum of 1200 m of permanent runway. The Airline has a good service network within Nepal and covers most of the important sectors. Currently its aircrafts fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Bhadrapur, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, charter flights as well as daily Mountain Flight.

Flying Dragon Airlines
Flyinf Dragon Airlines is an airline company based in Nepalgunj. Chinese aviation company, Feilong Aviation, based in Harbin, and which controls China Flying Dragon Aviation, has obtained approval from the Nepal Aviation and Transportation Department to form an airline along with five Nepalese people, with the first operations planned for August 2005 using Yun-12 17-seater dual passenger/cargo aircraft. Flying Dragon Airlines operates services to 5 destinations- Nepalgunj, Dolpa, Surkhet, Jumla and Simikot.

Gorkha Airlines
Gorkha Airlines is the oldest domestic airline of the country which was established in 1996. The airline now operates two German made Dornier Aircrafts and MI-l7 Helicopter.  Besides usual destinations, Gorkha Airlines operates mountain flight, a daily flight to the exotic Himalayan range with panoramas extending from Langtang to Everest. Combined with a flight to the Everest area as close as 4 nautical miles viewing the highest mountain of the world - "Mount Everest", and a unique sojourn through the scenic Namche Valley. On a clear day, one will view all 18 of the highest peaks, 4 of which are above 8000 meters.

Guna Airlines
Guna Airlines was established in 2009. The airline currently operates scheduled flights to 6 destinations as well as offering a mountain flight that offers spectacular views of the Himalayas. Guna Airlines operates a fleet of 3 Beechcraft 1900.

Mero Air
The airlines has flight operations to 13 destinations in the country- Lukla, Phaplu, Jumla, Dolpa, Simikot, Bhairawa, Dolpa, Simara, Nepalgunj, Pokhara, Jomsom, Bharatour and Biratnagar.  It has 3 Dornier Do 228 planes in operation.

Nepal Airlines
Nepal Airlines is the state owned airlines and the oldest airlines in the country. At present, it connects to 25 destinations inside the country. The commissioning of the remarkable Twin Otter and Pilatus Porter aircraft into the Royal Nepal Airlines fleet in 1970s brought about a quick and easy way of accessing many of the remote regions of the country.

Shree Airlines
The airline was established in the 1990s and was originally called Air Ananya, named after the CEO’s  granddaughter- Ananya Mittal, but when the cargo airline was certified as a passenger airline, Banwari Lal Mittal, CEO and Chairman of the airline changed its name to Shree Airlines, with 'Shree' meaning 'auspicious beginning'. Shree Airlines is the largest operator of helicopters in Nepal with a fleet of Mi-17 helicopters. These helicopters are capable of carrying up to 4000 kg of cargo or 26 people. Shree Airlines operates both cargo and passenger flights with these helicopters. Shree Airlines is the first private airline in Nepal to operate with a fully owned fleet of five helicopters, which till today remains the largest fleet of helicopters in the country.

Sita Air
Sita Air started a modest domestic operation within Nepal on 6th Februry 2003 with Dornier 228-202K aircraft. At present, Sita Air offers scheduled, charter and cargo Flights throughout Nepal.

Simrik Air
Established way back in 2001, Simrik Air has today well established itself as the most prominent rotor wing airline in Nepal. The company is successfully operating three choppers – B3 Ecureuil and two Japan made BK-117 B2 covering the entire geography of the country-mountain, hills and terai. These brilliantly engineered helicopters can easily take off and land in a minor space and marginal weather conditions, making them inherently perfect for mountains flights and all sorts of helicopter missions.

Tara Air
Tara Air is a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines and was established in 2009. It flies to 18 scheduled destinations as well as offers charter services. It operates a fleet of 7 aircraft which are especially suitable for flying into remote airports.

Yeti Airlines
Yeti Airlines was established in May 1998 and received its Air Operators Certificate on 17 August 1998. It is the parent company of Tara Air. Together, the two airlines form the largest domestic flight operator in Nepal. Yeti Airlines operates a fleet of seven aircraft and offers scheduled domestic flights to eight destinations.This airlines is famous for its larger number of flights to Lukla 9100ft, the gateway to Mount Everest and also to the Himalayan destinations like Jomsom 8800ft in the popular Annapurna region, and Simikot 9250ft, the main gateway to Mansarovar in the Tibet Autonomous region of China. Yeti airlines operate regular scheduled and charter flights to the major parts of the country.
